Operation in Siegburg - Special forces overpower man with knife: event cleared
A presumably mentally ill and armed man was overpowered by police special forces at a residence in Siegburg near Cologne on a Friday evening. The 36-year-old had reportedly contacted the police earlier and stated that he needed help and a special clinic. Upon arrival at the address, officers noticed during their conversation with the man at a window on the ground floor of his apartment that he had injuries on his arms. He had inflicted these injuries on himself, the man reportedly told the police.
Then, he threatened the police and grabbed a knife and a menacing object in his hand. The police called for additional forces, a negotiation team, and a special unit to the multi-family house. Due to the dangerous situation, the nearby music event was reportedly ended and cleared out as well.
Around 11:00 pm, the 36-year-old was allegedly overpowered by the special forces. He was lightly injured during the encounter, while the police remained unharmed. A blood sample was taken from him at a hospital. He was then taken to a special clinic. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
