Budget crisis - SPD state leader demands clear positioning from Scholz
The chairman of the south-west SPD has called on Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) to take a clear stance on the budget crisis. Andreas Stoch told the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung newspaper (Thursday) that he expected Scholz to give the state a clear direction on how to proceed at the SPD's national party conference on Saturday. "Olaf Scholz is not someone who bangs the table in public. You might wish that sometimes, even in your own party." In Stoch's view, however, the difficulty of the current situation requires "that we give a clear direction - and in Berlin, as the chancellor's party, not only take on the role of the referee, but also make our claim to leadership clear".
