SPD Saar elects new party leadership: Rehlinger to run again
Saarland SPD state leader Anke Rehlinger is standing for re-election this Friday at a state party conference (from 5 p.m.) in Völklingen. Beforehand, she will present the party's political priorities for Saarland over the next few years in a speech, according to a party spokesperson. Rehlinger has been Chairwoman of the Saar SPD since March 2018 and was last confirmed in office in November 2021. As Minister President, Rehlinger has led an SPD all-party government in the Saar since April 2022.
The program of the party conference, which continues on Saturday, includes the election of the entire state executive committee. This includes the four deputy chairpersons on Friday and the Secretary General on Saturday. The party executive has nominated Esra Limbacher for this position: The member of the Bundestag from the Saarpfalz district is to succeed Christian Petry, who is no longer running, said the spokesperson. Almost 400 delegates are expected to attend.
Despite the pending election of the entire state executive committee during the SPD Saar party conference, Anke Rehlinger, the incumbent party leader, is determined to seek re-election as Chairwoman. With various SPD parties across Germany, the SPD Saar continues to hold significant parties in the political landscape.
