SPD politician Roth indicates that Ukraine will permit assaults using Western arms in Russia.
The concern of surpassing a boundary that might turn NATO nations into war participants was disregarded by Roth. "The red line is international law, this line won't be crossed," he stresses, referring to Ukrainian assaults on targets in Russia. If, for instance, Ukraine assaults weapons storage facilities in Russia, that falls under Ukraine's right to self-defense against Russia's aggressive war. "Only one is escalating, and that's Vladimir Putin," added the SPD politician.
The importance of obtaining a 'green light' for the use of Western weapons is evident in response to Russian assaults on the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, said Roth. In Kharkiv, Ukraine had to "watch for almost four weeks" as Russia readied for an attack.
At this moment, swift choices need to be made within NATO in regard to this issue. French President Emmanuel Macron has also placed emphasis on lifting these restrictions.
Roth also criticized the delay in providing Ukraine with weapons in general. "We're too slow and not comprehensive enough," said the SPD politician. "This has also resulted in Ukraine being in a very tough position right now." He also expressed unhappiness with the actions of some European partner states. It's crucial at present to "quell Russian imperialism." "I advise giving Ukraine everything it requires."
