Parliament - SPD parliamentary group to elect new group leadership
Following the resignation of its chairman Thomas Losse-Müller, the SPD parliamentary group in the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament plans to elect a new leader on Tuesday (1 p.m.). Since Losse-Müller's announcement, none of the eleven other parliamentary party members had officially thrown their hats into the ring.
It is considered likely that state chairwoman Serpil Midyatli will stand for election. She had already led the parliamentary group until the 2022 state elections. However, Midyatli had to make way for the failed top candidate Losse-Müller after the party's disastrous performance.
The SPD achieved its worst result ever with 16% and did not win a single constituency. With twelve MPs, it is now only the third largest parliamentary group in the state parliament. Losse-Müller also wants to give up his seat in the state parliament in April and move to the Climate Neutrality Foundation as Managing Director.
