Party politics - SPD parliamentary deputy against cuts to state programs
Lutz Liebscher, deputy parliamentary group leader of the SPD, rejects cuts to some state programs in the ongoing search for a compromise on Thuringia's 2024 state budget. The signals for an agreement between the red-red-green minority coalition and the CDU for a budget resolution are good, he said. "But there are red lines," said Liebscher on Saturday at an SPD state party conference in Meiningen.
As examples, he cited cuts of around 1 million euros to the state employment market program, 1.1 million euros to the state democracy program and around 3 million euros to the program for living together in solidarity.
At a meeting on Friday, CDU parliamentary group leader Mario Voigt and Thuringia's Minister President Bodo Ramelow (Left Party) made it clear that they were willing to reach an agreement. Both brought up a possible adoption of the budget shortly before Christmas - the parliamentary groups are discussing December 20 and 21. "After the talks, my optimism has increased," said Ramelow. Voigt called for improvements to the government's draft budget, but he also said: "I want us to get a budget done." The CDU is demanding real savings in the budget for the super election year 2024, which has a record volume of 13.8 billion euros so far.
