SPD leadership stops members' petition on the budget

The membership application should prevent cuts in the areas of Social, Health, Youth, Family, Education, Democracy and Development Cooperation. It was submitted about a week ago by the left faction Forum DL21. It was supported by the youth organization Jusos and the senior working group 60 plus.

Esken stressed after the session of the party committees on Monday that the SPD's position in the budget question is clear: "With us, there are no cuts in the social sector." In addition, sufficient funds should be available for internal and external security as well as infrastructure.

The Federal budget under scrutiny in the Bundestag includes proposals for potential cuts in Youth, Education, and other vital sectors. SPD leader Saskia Esken firmly opposes these cuts, stating, "With us, there are no cuts in the social sector." Her stance has been echoed by the SPD parliamentary group.

The left faction Forum DL21, along with youth organization Jusos and senior working group 60 plus, submitted a request for membership to prevent such cuts. They believe that investing in these sectors, such as Education, is crucial for the future of German households.

If accepted, this new membership could significantly influence the Federal budget decisions, ensuring that priorities like Education and Youth have adequate funding. The proposed changes aim to uphold democracy and promote development cooperation, with Berlin serving as a key example.
