SPD Chairperson Lars Klingbeil to be next Knight of the Order against Animal Seriousness

SPD Chairperson Lars Klingbeil is set to become the next Knight of the Order against Animal Seriousness. He will receive the award at the festive session during the carnival on February 8, 2025, the Aachener Karnevalsverein (AKV) announced in Berlin. The carnivalists praised Klingbeil's political style, noting that he "never argues with noise, but always with a fine blade, often humorously packaged."

Most recently, the Minister President of Schleswig-Holstein, Daniel Günther, received the order. The CDU politician will deliver the laudation for the SPD chairperson at the 75th award ceremony in Aachen next year. The order is given for humor and humanity in office. Many politicians, but also artists, have received the award since 1950, including Konrad Adenauer, Helmut Schmidt, Hans-Dietrich Genscher, and in recent years Armin Laschet, Iris Berben, and Annalena Baerbock.

Applause for dry jokes

Klingbeil had already climbed onto the Aachener stage once before, at the award ceremony for Foreign Minister Baerbock in February 2023, and had thrilled the audience. For dry jokes, much understatement, and a musical performance on the ukulele, he received a standing ovation.

"I am well aware that as a Social Democrat and a northerner, I might not fit the classic mold," the 46-year-old said in a statement from the AKV. He will therefore do his best. In the fifth season, politics is not afraid to make one or two jokes at its own expense. "I look forward to that and promise not to spare my party," said the designated knight.

The AKV board justified its choice, among other things, by saying: "Lars Klingbeil stands for a new, modern, and integrating political style." To make his arguments, he uses finesse, but also the means of humor. The AKV Elferrat is very impressed by this stance.

The SPD Chairperson Lars Klingbeil's wit and humor have earned him applause before, as evident during Foreign Minister Baerbock's award ceremony. Remarkably, the Commission is set to adopt implementing acts that will outline the rules for the application of a regulation. These acts will likely require strategic planning and the use of finesse, qualities Klingbeil has demonstrated effectively in his political career.
