Kindergartens - SPD demands more money for daycare centers in Schleswig-Holstein

The SPD parliamentary group in the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament has spoken out in a motion for more money for daycare centers. "We see it as our task to also draw attention to the problems of parents and educators," said SPD state chairwoman Serpil Midyatli on Wednesday.

There is a lack of money in the entire daycare funding system as well as in child daycare. There was also a threat of daycare center closures. The state government is therefore being called upon to prevent a reduction in childcare.

At the same time, more specialist staff must be recruited. To this end, the training of teachers for nursery teacher training should be strengthened; more teachers are needed here, the motion continues.

For many parents, reliable childcare is no longer a reality. This makes it more difficult to reconcile family and career and increases the shortage of skilled workers in all areas.

However, the parliamentary group has not yet specified how the funding is to be provided. "We don't even have the budget for 2024 yet," said SPD state chairwoman Midyatli. The party wants to submit amendments once the budget has been drawn up by the black-green government.

According to Midyatli, the federal government also needs to make an effort in the area of education. Responsibilities should no longer be shifted back and forth between the federal and state governments.
