SPD begins three-day federal party conference with election of party leaders

In the afternoon, delegates will discuss a key motion from the party leadership entitled "Together for a strong Germany". It is intended to sharpen the social profile of the Chancellor's party, which is weakening in the polls. Among other things, it envisages higher taxes on the wealthy and a relaxation of the debt brake - although parts of the party are demanding the abolition of the debt rules. The SPD leadership also wants to promote investment in projects for the climate-neutral restructuring of the economy with a state fund for Germany.
