Spanish journalist accuses Gérard Depardieu of rape
According to the now 51-year-old Baza, the incident allegedly took place on the premises of the former production company Roissy Films. She said that she "at no time" consented to sex with the actor and was "paralyzed". The police and public prosecutor's office did not initially confirm the receipt of a complaint from Baza.
An investigation into allegations of rape against Depardieu has been ongoing in France since the end of 2020. The actress Charlotte Arnould accuses the actor of raping her twice in his Paris apartment in 2018.
At the beginning of December, actress Hélène Darras also accused him of sexual assault during filming in 2007. Numerous other women have accused Depardieu of sexual assault in the past, but have not yet pressed charges. Depardieu, who turns 75 on December 27, rejects all accusations.
A few days ago, French Culture Minister Rima Abdul Malak described Depardieu's behavior towards women as a "disgrace to France" and initiated his expulsion from the Legion of Honor. This was triggered by a documentary in which the film star can be seen making numerous vulgar and sexist comments during a filming trip to North Korea.
Depardieu is one of the most famous French actors. He has worked with the most important directors and actresses in France and has appeared in more than 200 films. In them, he has played the eloquent Cyrano de Bergerac as well as a washed-up pop singer, a slaughterhouse worker, an Alzheimer's patient and Obelix.
From a legal point of view, Spanish author Baza's criminal complaint is almost hopeless, as the crime is said to have taken place in France and would have been time-barred there long ago. However, the 51-year-old hopes, in her own words, that she can "help other people" to do the same.
