The German Water Polo League - Spandau water polo team suffers defeat in championshipfinale
The swimming club Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 failed to retain their German water polo championship title after losing to Waspo 98 Hannover in the decisive fifth final match. The Berliners were beaten 6:9 (0:2, 1:2 - 3:1, 2:4) at the Schwimmhalle Schöneberg on Saturday. This was the fifth consecutive win for the Lower Saxons in the championship duel, which they have been dominating since 2017.
From the get-go, it was evident that Hannover was more determined and had a higher level of assertiveness than Spandau. They were able to convert their chances effectively, taking a 4:1 lead by halftime. Spandau's attacks looked ineffective and disorganized, with only Tomasovic scoring twice. Niclas Kai Schipper, on the other hand, found the back of the net three times for Hannover. The host team delivered a lackluster performance and rightfully suffered a loss.
In contrast, the women's team from Spandau 04 managed to win their fifth championship title in a row. They sealed the deal by winning the second and final match against SSV Esslingen with a resounding score of 23:6. The highest number of goals for the winners came from Ira Deike, who scored five times.
