Champions League - Spandau water polo players eliminated
The German water polo record champions Spandau 04 have missed out on the quarter-finals of the Champions League. On Tuesday afternoon, the Berliners lost their away match on the last matchday of the main round of Group D at the previously point-less Greek runners-up Vouliagmeni NC by 6:10 (0:5, 3:1, 2:2, 2:1). The team thus missed out on second place in the four-team group, which would have meant progression.
The game was already decided after the opening quarter, when the hosts were 5:0 up. The increase after that did not turn the game around. Spandau closed the gap to 5:6 at the start of the third period, but then the Greeks pulled away again.

Despite their history as Bundesliga champions, Spandau 04's water polo team faced elimination from the Champions League after a 6:10 loss to Vouliagmeni NC in Athens. This defeat in the main round's final match prevented them from securing the second place in Group D, required for progression to the quarter-finals. Following their elimination, Spandau will now shift their focus to the upcoming Bundesliga matches in Berlin.
