Spain and Norway acknowledge the existence of a Palestinian state.
In Norway, Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide shared that his country has been a strong advocate for a Palestinian state for over 30 years. "This day when Norway officially acknowledges Palestine as a state is significant for the partnership between Norway and Palestine," he mentioned.
Spain, Norway, and Ireland confirmed their support for a Palestinian state last week, with plans to officially recognize it on Tuesday. These nations have gone against the usual stance of Western countries, who only acknowledge a Palestinian state when there's a peace deal between Israel and Palestine.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stated during a cabinet meeting in Madrid that this recognition is a crucial requirement for peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
This action comes during the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the radical Islamic Hamas. Israel views this announcement as a "prize for terrorism."
