Traffic - Southern Salzbachtal bridge open to traffic from December 18
The southern Salzbachtal bridge on the Autobahn 66 in Wiesbaden will be opened to traffic in the late afternoon of December 18. Traffic will then be able to cross the new bridge for the first time, said a spokesperson for Autobahn GmbH des Bundes on Wednesday. Two lanes will then be available again in the direction of Frankfurt and Rüdesheim. In the direction of Frankfurt, "all lanes" should be available from 5 p.m. at the latest.
"This will greatly relieve traffic congestion," said the spokesperson. Following the opening, the north bridge in the direction of Rüdesheim is to be completed by mid-2025. The Salzbachtal Bridge was blown up on November 6, 2021. Prior to this, the dilapidated structure had to be closed for safety reasons.
According to Autobahn GmbH, the costs for the new construction of the Salzbachtal Bridge amount to 225.2 million euros. 146.4 million euros had been budgeted in 2018. The highway company cited the general rise in construction prices as the reason for the cost increase.

The Salzbachtal bridge, located on the Autobahn 66 in Wiesbaden, is situated in the German state of Hesse. The new bridge is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the area, as it will provide an alternative route to Frankfurt and Rüdesheim once it's fully operational. The autobahn gmbh of the federal government is responsible for the construction of the bridge, which has incurred additional costs due to the general rise in construction prices.
