Son not sent to school for three years: Mother arrested

A mother from a village near Grevesmühlen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has been arrested for not sending her son to school for three years. She had not paid a fine of 90 daily rates for violating the school law, said a spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office in Schwerin on Wednesday. The woman also did not accept the offer to work off the sentence in the community. She must now spend 90 days in prison. The "Ostsee-Zeitung" had previously reported on the case. According to the paper, the boy was last at school in October 2020.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the woman must spend a further 150 days in prison because, among other things, she held unregistered or prohibited gatherings. This was done in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. She also assaulted law enforcement officers. In total, the woman's alternative custodial sentence amounts to 240 days. The spokesperson emphasized that she could end her sentence at any time if she paid the fine. All penalty orders were issued by the Wismar district court.

According to the district of Nordwestmecklenburg, the son has been taken into the care of the woman's partner. The boy is doing well, said a spokeswoman. According to the Ministry of Education in Schwerin, he is now to be reintegrated into the school system.

Despite the mother's failure to send her son to school for three years, leading to her arrest and imprisonment, it's crucial that he receives a quality education. Given the situation, efforts should be made to ensure his re-entry into the school system, focusing on addressing any challenges he might have faced during his absence.
