Son in psychiatric hospital after attack on parents

A 33-year-old man is said to have attacked his parents in the district of Deggendorf with the intention of killing them. The man slightly injured his father's neck with a sharp object during the attack in their shared apartment in Plattling, the police announced on Friday. This was followed by a further attack on the father, which the parents were able to fend off.

In an unobserved moment, they are said to have left the house to go to the police. With support from Straubing, the officers provisionally arrested the suspect at his home. After being brought before a court on Friday, the 33-year-old was admitted to a specialist psychiatric clinic. The criminal investigation department is investigating him on suspicion of attempted manslaughter.

The attack in Plattling, Lower Bavaria, took place in a shared apartment, and the suspect was later admitted to a psychiatric clinic in a different location. Despite the serious crime committed, the specific location of the psychiatric facility was not disclosed for privacy reasons.
