Size of constituencies - Some state parliamentary constituencies need to be redrawn

For the 2026 state election, some constituencies need to be redrawn. The reason: The number of eligible voters in the individual constituencies should not deviate too much, so that each vote approximately counts the same, as speakers of the factions explained. Six of the 52 constituencies are affected. The governing factions SPD, Greens, and FDP, as well as the largest opposition party CDU, will introduce a joint legislative amendment in parliament next week for this purpose. Details about this will be presented jointly by the Parliamentary Business Managers of the two large factions, Martin Haller (SPD) and Martin Brandl (CDU), in Mainz.

The upcoming state election in 2026 requires adjustments in some Rhineland-Palatinate constituencies due to voter distribution imbalances. The affected areas include six out of the 52 constituencies, prompting the cooperation of all major parties, including the CDU, SPD, Greens, and FDP. These parties will jointly propose a legislative amendment in the next parliamentary session to ensure equal voting weight across constituencies, thus preserving the integrity of elections in Rhineland-Palatinate.
