Last year, approximately 24,700 individuals in Rhineland-Palatinate received BAföG. The number of recipients remained virtually unchanged from the previous year, increasing by 0.1 percent, the State Statistical Office in Bad Ems announced. "For the first time in ten years, there was no decrease recorded."

Among the financially supported were 81 percent, or 19,900 students. BAföG was also received by students at vocational schools, general schools, evening schools, and colleges. On average, individuals received 638 euros per month, marking an increase of around eight percent.

However, compared to ten years ago, the number of recipients has decreased significantly. In 2013, 31,200 students and 13,000 schoolchildren received BAföG. "The bureaucratic burden, too low parental allowances, too high loan components, or alternative funding offers are often cited as reasons for the decrease in BAföG recipients," the office stated.

The importance of education was evident as 81% of the BAföG recipients were students. Despite the decrease in overall recipients over the past decade, the significance of financial aid like BAföG in supporting education remains crucial.
