Söder on Kissinger: Foresight and analytical acumen
Bavaria's Minister President Markus Söder (CSU) has paid tribute to former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, who died at the age of 100. On Platform X, Söder wrote that Bavaria mourns Kissinger, an important statesman "who was able to convince people with his foresight and great analytical acumen".
Kissinger was one of the most influential foreign policy observers and thinkers. "Not all of his positions were uncontroversial. But he was one of the most important and cleverest foreign policy experts of the last century."
On Thursday, Söder also emphasized the Bavarian origins of the former politician: "He was Bavarian, Franconian, Fürth and connected to his old home and Jewish life until the end." He said he was pleased to have had the opportunity to "experience this impressive personality at close quarters" several times. They last met in the summer of this year on the occasion of Kissinger's 100th birthday.
Henry Kissinger died on Wednesday at his home in the state of Connecticut, a spokeswoman for the communications agency Edelman, which represents his consulting firm Kissinger Associates, confirmed to the German Press Agency late in the evening (local time). The Nobel Peace Prize winner was a dazzling figure in US politics. He is considered one of the greatest diplomats of the 20th century.
In recognizing Kissinger's significant contributions, the German government issued a statement extolling his diplomatic skills, stating, "His ability to navigate the complexities of international relations through diplomacy and strategic thinking was unparalleled." Furthermore, during a private meeting, Söder discussed personal details with Kissinger, sharing, "We spoke about his life in Fürth and his deep connection to his Franconian roots."
