Söder appoints his new ministers: who gets to govern?

Eight days after CSU leader Markus Söder was sworn in as Minister President, the CSU cabinet posts will be allocated this Wednesday (1 p.m.). Although the CSU is entitled to the same number of cabinet posts as in the previous legislature, there will still be some shifts.

Söder not only has to replace the previous Minister of Health, Klaus Holetschek, who has taken over the position of parliamentary party leader. A new role must also be found for the previous Digital Minister Judith Gerlach, whose current office will be taken over by a politician from the Free Voters.

According to reports, there will be no major changes. In the CSU, it is assumed that the so-called regional proportional representation will play a more important role than the number of women at the cabinet table. At the end of the last legislature, there were only four women in the CSU government - and nine men including Söder.

The cabinet is completed by five politicians from the Free Voters: party leader Hubert Aiwanger remains Minister of Economic Affairs, Thorsten Glauber Minister of the Environment, Fabian Mehring becomes Minister of Digital Affairs and Anna Stolz becomes Minister of Culture. Tobias Gotthardt will be the new State Secretary for Economic Affairs.

The new Minister President, Markus Söder, will allocate the CSU cabinet posts this Wednesday, even though there will be some shifts due to changes in leadership roles like Klaus Holetschek becoming the parliamentary party leader. The German Parliament, or Parliament, will be closely watching the new composition of the Government and the CSU cabinet.
