Social Democratic Party (SPD) suffers setbacks in the Ruhr region of North Rhine-Westphalia; only Herne continues to be under their control.

The Ruhr area was previously known as the "stronghold" of the SPD. Yet, in the recent European elections, the CDU triumphed even in the remaining strongholds - except for one location.

Upcoming European polls will decide the fate of EU issues. - Social Democratic Party (SPD) suffers setbacks in the Ruhr region of North Rhine-Westphalia; only Herne continues to be under their control.

The North Rhine-Westphalia SPD will likely face more losses in the Ruhr area following the recent European election. Unofficial findings indicate that the Social Democrats secured first-place victories merely in districts with independent cities of Herne, with 23.9% of the votes. The CDU was not far behind at 23.7%. In the industrial cities of Duisburg, Gelsenkirchen, Bottrop, and Oberhausen, the CDU managed to surpass the SPD.

Similarly, the Greens, who previously boasted strong results, have lost their leading spot in multiple cities. In Dortmund, Wuppertal, Bielefeld, and Bonn, the CDU superceded the Greens. However, in Cologne, the most populous city in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Greens remained at the top with 24.3%, albeit with some losses. Nonetheless, the CDU emerged victorious in the other significant cities throughout the state.
