Parliament - Social Affairs Minister Touré: Daycare law will be amended in 2024
According to Social Affairs Minister Aminata Touré, the daycare system in Schleswig-Holstein is to be adapted in the coming year through legislative changes. Children have the right to receive early childhood education and parents must have the certainty that they can drop their children off in the morning, said the Green politician in the Kiel state parliament. Similarly, professionals should not bear the main burden because their facilities lack staff and money.
According to Touré, the existing daycare law must therefore be thoroughly analyzed and evaluated as part of the planned evaluation. The aim is to improve the quality of daycare centers, strengthen skilled workers and create reliability.
Over the past five years, the state has already created 13,000 additional daycare places, the Minister continued. The municipalities would also receive financial support for the expansion of daycare centers - this would also apply for 2024. From 2025, the funding would have to be reassessed, as it was not certain whether the federal government would launch a new investment program.
Nevertheless, there is still a lack of staff in some daycare centers in Schleswig-Holstein. However, this should be further counteracted, for example, by recruiting more lateral entrants.
It also helps that the funding for daycare centers is also fundamentally secured in the draft budget for the coming year. According to Touré, funding for childcare facilities is set to increase by 96 million euros to around 697 million euros in the coming year. One downer, however, is that the groups in after-school care centers will be larger - with the same number of staff.
