Weather - Snowfall and slippery roads in some areas at the start of the new week
At the start of the new week, the German Weather Service (DWD) is warning of snowfall and black ice in some areas in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. The DWD announced on Monday that snowfall would set in from the west during the morning and roads could become icy. At low altitudes, 4 to 6 centimetres of fresh snow is possible at first, and up to 10 centimetres in the mountains. According to the forecasts, more than 15 centimetres of fresh snow could fall locally in the Hunsrück region.
By the evening, the precipitation will change to rain, first in the lowlands and later in the mountains. There is then a risk of black ice in some areas on the still cold ground, the experts warned. After a frosty start to the day, temperatures will rise as the day progresses. In the west, meteorologists expect temperatures of up to around 4 degrees, in the east 0 to 2 degrees.
