Winter sports - Snowboarder Hofmeister also wins second World Cup

Snowboarder Ramona Hofmeister has also won the second World Cup of the season, proving her impressive early form. The athlete from Bischofswiesen in Upper Bavaria won the parallel giant slalom in Cortina d'Ampezzo on Saturday evening. The 27-year-old beat Italy's Lucia Dalmasso in the final. Hofmeister celebrated her 17th World Cup success - only on Thursday she had also triumphed in the Carezza ski resort at the start of the season.

"I can't stop beaming right now," said Hofmeister, who won bronze at the 2018 Olympics and won the overall World Cup three times from 2020 to 2022. "It's incredible, it was so much fun."

Hofmeister's teammates Melanie Hochreiter and Cheyenne Loch were eliminated in the round of 16 after strong performances in qualifying. The German men missed out on a place in the knockout round of the top 16 starters. Victory in Cortina went to the Austrian Olympic champion Benjamin Karl.
