Weather - Snow in Hamburg: work for the snow clearing services

Light snowfall turned parts of Hamburg into a winter wonderland on Monday morning. Children used the fresh powder snow for tobogganing in Schanzenpark, for example. Dozens of children and their parents raced down the small hill with their sledges in the morning.

For road users, the snow caused some obstructions. However, the winter service of the Hamburg city cleaning department was well prepared and deployed early, as a spokesperson told the German Press Agency. "We were out on the roads with over 700 people and 300 vehicles," he said. The team started with the main roads, and selected cycle paths were also gritted or cleared. The aim is to have a star-shaped approach to the city.

The German Weather Service is expecting a total of up to five centimetres of fresh snow during the course of the day on Monday. In the night to Tuesday, light snowfall is expected again from the Elbe.
