Snack entrepreneur Lorenz Bahlsen passes away
Snack entrepreneur Lorenz Bahlsen has died at the age of 75. The owner and long-standing company director of the Lorenz Group succumbed to a serious illness at the end of October, according to a statement from Lorenz Snack-World Holding in Neu-Isenburg near Frankfurt. Bahlsen is survived by his wife, five daughters and sons and four grandchildren. This had previously been reported by several media outlets.
Lorenz Bahlsen, grandson of company founder Hermann Bahlsen, was active in the management of the cookie manufacturer for more than 45 years. He joined the long-established Bahlsen company from Hanover in 1974 and became a personally liable partner in 1977. From 1987 to 1992, he was Chairman of the Management Board of H. Bahlsen Keksfabrik KG and was subsequently appointed to the Management Board of the Bahlsen Group.
However, a dispute arose within the family and the Bahlsen Group was split up at the end of the 1990s. Lorenz Bahlsen ran the salty snacks division as the independent family company Lorenz Snack-World, while the cookie business remained in Hanover. "Under his leadership, the Lorenz Group established itself as a major player on the international market for snack products," said the statement on his death. Today, the company employs around 3,000 people and is known for its potato chips, nuts and peanut flakes, among other things.
Four years ago, Lorenz Bahlsen handed over the management of the company to his son Moritz. "We will greatly miss his courage, his wealth of ideas and ingenuity, his humor and his advice," he explained.
Lorenz Bahlsen's passion for food led him to spend over four decades managing the Bahlsen Group, spearheading the salty snacks division. In his Personal details, he was married with several children and grandchildren. The success of the company in Trade, under Bahlsen's leadership, resulted in employing around 3,000 people, known for their diverse snack offerings including potato chips, nuts, and peanut flakes.
