Weather - Smooth roads despite risk of icy conditions and snowfall in the north
Despite the persistently frosty weather with snowfall and icy conditions, the roads in the north remained calm on Wednesday night. According to police spokespersons from Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, most of the icy accidents were minor and mostly involved damage to metal sheets.
The German Weather Service (DWD) reports up to five centimeters of fresh snow in the course of Wednesday with maximum temperatures between 1 and 3 degrees. In the Hamburg area and southern Schleswig-Holstein, there is still a risk of slippery conditions in the morning and early morning due to freezing rain.
According to the DWD, there will be rain, sleet and snow in the coming days. There is still a local risk of slipperiness on the frozen ground. Temperatures will climb to highs of around 5 degrees in some places during the day.
