SMEs describe toll increase as a serious mistake
The SME sector in Saxony-Anhalt considers the increase in the truck toll to be a serious mistake. It is a further blow to the business location in general and to the logistics sector, said Peter Martini from the Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Saxony-Anhalt. "The C02 surcharge, which almost doubles the truck toll, will hit the logistics location, which is so important here, and consumers hard." This will also have an impact on the labor market.
Since Friday, a surcharge has been payable on the truck toll on federal highways and freeways. This amounts to 200 euros per ton of CO2. According to the federally owned operator Toll Collect, this will increase the toll charge per kilometer from 19 to 34.8 cents in the cheapest truck class, for example. The Federal Ministry of Transport describes the impact on consumer prices as marginal.
The rise in truck tolls, coupled with the significant CO2 surcharge, could negatively affect the broader transportation sector in Saxony-Anhalt, potentially leading to increased taxes for businesses and consumers due to higher shipping costs. Moreover, the heightened CO2 charges will likely have repercussions on the local climate, as reduced truck usage may result in more carbon emissions from alternative transportation methods.
