After the recent elections in Saxony and Thuringia, business leaders are anxious about the political and financial stability of both states. The election outcomes from last Sunday - with the AfD emerging as the dominant force in Thuringia, and coming in a close second to the CDU in Saxony - could potentially harm the area's reputation, both domestically and internationally, according to the German SME Association (DMB)'s board member, Marc Tenbieg. He also voiced concerns warrior that skilled labor might be discouraged.

"Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs)" require a steady, pro-business environment - not outdated politics of extremism with regressive and anti-social programs," Tenbieg explained. The SME-supportive rhetoric from the AfD and BSW is just "a deceptive tactic to mask their lack of substance in economic policy."

"Manifestation of dissatisfaction with the coalition government"

DZ Bank labeled the AfD's victory in Thuringia as a devastating sign, particularly on the international stage. And a potential alliance between CDU, Left, and BSW would have even less common ground than Berlin's traffic light coalition. "Progressive decisions are not likely to emerge."

The Association of German Mechanical Engineering (VDMA) viewed the election results as "a clear indication of dissatisfaction with the coalition government." The association reiterated that mechanical engineering companies are heavily focused on exports. "For this, we require a forward-thinking and evidence-based policy that attracts investors, entrepreneurs, and workers, not deters them," said the Eastern regional association's chairman, Alexander Jakschik.

The DMB board urged all democratic forces to collaborate. Tenbieg: "The state elections in two federal states should not serve as a blueprint for the entire country." The association represents around 27,000 small and medium-sized enterprises with over 650,000 employees.

"The election outcomes in Saxony and Thuringia may negatively impact the attractiveness of these states for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs), as they might perceive the political climate as unstable and unfavorable."

"Given the critical role of SMEs in Germany's economy, it's crucial for the political leaders to foster an environment that encourages their growth and development, rather than creating uncertainty through divisive policies."
