Slump in residential construction orders continues

Thuringian construction companies continue to experience a slump in orders for residential construction. From January to September, orders totaling around 132 million euros were received, more than 30 percent less than in the same period last year, according to the State Statistical Office in Erfurt on Monday. The situation was quite different in public construction and road building. Here, incoming orders climbed by 21 percent to 1.1 billion euros in the first nine months of the year, according to the statisticians. In commercial construction, the order books were just as full as in 2022.

Overall, this means that the main construction sector recorded an eight percent increase in orders in the first nine months of the year. Companies also recorded a slight increase in turnover. At around 1.8 billion euros, 1.5 percent more money ended up in the companies' coffers. There was also a drop in residential construction and growth in public and road construction.

According to statistics, an average of around 14,200 people have worked in the 289 companies in the main construction sector since the start of the year.

Despite the slump in residential construction orders, commercial construction companies continue to see their order books remain full.In contrast to residential construction, public construction and road building orders have experienced a significant rise, increasing by 21% since the beginning of the year.
