Soccer - Slovakian European Championship player Benes moves from HSV to Union
Football-Bundesligist 1. FC Union Berlin has, as expected, signed the Slovakian national player Laszlo Benes. The 26-year-old midfielder is switching from Second Division team Hamburger SV to the capital city. The Berliners, as usual, made no comments on the contract length in their statement on Friday.
"We are gaining a versatile midfielder with Laszlo who can create chances with his set-pieces time and again", said Horst Heldt, the football business manager. Benes is currently in action with the national team at the European Championship; on Sunday (6:00 PM CET) the Slovaks face England in the Round of 16.
According to information from Hamburger SV, for whom Benes played for two years, Benes is making use of an exit clause for his transfer. Originally, his contract at Hamburg still ran until 30. June 2026. "This generates a fixed transfer fee for HSV", said an HSV statement. The "Bild" had already reported on the impending transfer earlier.
