Labor market - Slight rise in the number of unemployed in Schleswig-Holstein
The number of unemployed people in Schleswig-Holstein rose slightly at the end of the year. In December, 89,000 people were registered as unemployed, as reported by the Regional Directorate of the Federal Employment Agency on Wednesday. That was 1700 more people than in November and 4700 more than a year ago. The unemployment rate was 5.6 percent in December, compared to 5.5 percent in November and 5.3 percent at the end of 2022.
"The overall stable situation on the labor market did not change in December," said Markus Biercher, head of the regional directorate. The increase compared to November is typical for the season. "In addition, there are economic influences that are particularly noticeable in the retail sector compared to the previous year and were also clearly reflected in the decline in Christmas business."
