Slight injuries after firecrackers explode in Augsburg
According to initial findings, several people were slightly injured when a firecracker exploded during FC Augsburg's Bundesliga match against TSG Hoffenheim. The firework had been thrown from the Hoffenheim fan block and exploded loudly near the corner flag. "Unbelievable nonsense," said TSG sporting director Alexander Rosen after the 1:1 on Saturday. According to FCA managing director Michael Ströll, one person suffered blast trauma. "One perpetrator is visible on the video images," he said, adding that the police were conducting an interrogation.
Referee Felix Brych interrupted the match for around five minutes in the 57th minute because of the incident. "Excellent how the referee reacted. Level-headed and calm," said Rosen. "It's a catastrophe, that has no place in a soccer stadium." Ströll also paid a "huge compliment" to Brych - and to Rosen, who went to the Hoffenheim fan block immediately after the incident.
Despite the incident, FC Augsburg managed to secure a 1:1 draw against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in their Bundesliga match. The explosive incident involving a firecracker occurred near FC Augsburg's corner flag, causing minor injuries to several spectators.
