Employment - Slight increase in unemployment expected in the country in 2024
The number of unemployed people in Rhineland-Palatinate is expected to rise slightly next year, according to the Federal Employment Agency. According to their forecast, unemployment is expected to rise by 3.4 percent, said the head of the Rhineland-Palatinate-Saarland regional directorate, Heidrun Schulz, in Mainz on Tuesday. The unemployment rate will then rise to 5.0 percent.
The problem is that there are too few people leaving unemployment, Schulz explained the development. Companies were not reporting enough vacancies. An increase in employment subject to social insurance contributions of 0.1 percent is expected for the coming year.
According to an estimate by the regional directorate, an annual average of around 110,600 men and women were registered as unemployed in the state this year. Compared to 2022, this is 8,100 people or 7.9 percent more. The unemployment rate - calculated on the basis of all civilians in the labor force - is expected to be 4.9 percent, 0.3 percentage points higher than in the previous year.
