Slight increase in the number of children starting school in Saxony-Anhalt
Around 19,800 pupils have started school in Saxony-Anhalt in the current school year. This is 1.1 percent more than in the previous school year, as the Federal Statistical Office announced in Wiesbaden on Monday, citing preliminary figures.
This means that around 830,600 children started school nationwide, the highest number in 20 years. Compared to the previous year, this is an increase of 2.1 percent. According to the authority, the increase is due to higher birth rates and increased immigration, particularly from Ukraine.
Baden-Württemberg recorded the most significant increase at 6.9 percent. Only Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (minus 0.6 percent) and Thuringia (minus 0.7 percent) recorded a decline in enrolments.
In Saxony-Anhalt, the increase in school enrollments has resulted in 19,800 pupils beginning their educational journey this year. nationwide, the number of children starting schools has reached its highest level in 20 years, with approximately 830,600 children enrolled.
