In the Dresden area, slabs of ice slid off three trucks within a short space of time and fell onto other vehicles. A 55-year-old driver was slightly injured in one of the incidents on Tuesday, according to the police. A slab of ice smashed through the windshield of a car on the A17 south of Dresden on Tuesday morning. The driver was slightly injured by shards of ice and glass. The initially unknown truck driver is being investigated for negligent bodily injury. The damage to property was estimated at around 5000 euros.

Two further incidents occurred on the A4: on Tuesday morning, a slab of ice fell from a truck onto a van between Dresden-Wilder Mann and Dresden-Neustadt. The windshield was damaged, but the driver was uninjured. On Monday evening, just before the Dresden-West junction, the windshield of a car was destroyed by a slab of ice that slid off a truck. The driver was uninjured and the damage to property amounted to 1000 euros, according to the police.

The two truck drivers were reported to the police. The police pointed out that drivers must remove snow and ice from the vehicle before setting off. They are also obliged to keep checking during the journey whether dangerous loads have formed on the roof. According to the police, they are currently carrying out more checks at service stations to ensure that vehicles are sufficiently cleared of snow and ice.
