Skills shortage is the biggest concern for many companies
The shortage of skilled workers is the biggest concern for almost half of the companies in Saxony-Anhalt. According to a representative study presented by Commerzbank on Wednesday, 46 percent of the companies surveyed in the state identified the shortage of skilled workers as their top priority. In some cases, this has far-reaching consequences for companies, said Thomas Heller from Commerzbank Magdeburg. For example, three out of five companies are behind schedule with the delivery of products or services. Every second company described the shortage of skilled workers as a threat to the future of the company. On a positive note, 38% of companies reported no problems.
"What I find extremely frightening is that all sectors are affected," explained Patrick Leidenroth, Managing Director of plant manufacturer Sandersleben (Mansfeld-Südharz), at the presentation of the study. There is now also competition between the companies, which are fishing people away from each other. In the coming years, many employees will also be retiring. "I don't know how to fill these positions again." What has the advantage of giving employees more freedom is problematic from an entrepreneurial perspective.
For the study, Commerzbank interviewed 100 companies in Saxony-Anhalt alone.
The economic situation, with its impact on the labor market, has significantly contributed to the skills shortage being a major concern for many companies in Saxony-Anhalt. This issue, as highlighted by Patrick Leidenroth, Managing Director of Sandersleben, is causing competition among companies as they struggle to retain and replace retiring employees.
Given the severe skills shortage within various sectors, the company's future economic prospects are dependent on their ability to effectively navigate the challenging labor market.
