Skier Dürr narrowly misses the podium - Shiffrin wins
Ski racer Lena Dürr continues to show strong form in the still young alpine season, but just missed out on her third podium place in the third slalom of the winter. The athlete from SV Germering finished fourth in Killington in the US state of Vermont on Sunday. Local hero Mikaela Shiffrin celebrated her 90th World Cup victory. The Slovakian Olympic champion Petra Vlhova finished second ahead of Switzerland's Wendy Holdener.
Buoyed by her second and third places in the first two slaloms of the season in Levi, Finland, Dürr skied up to second place in the first run on the icy slope in Killington. In the second run, however, the 32-year-old made a small mistake in the lower section of the course, which cost her a possible better position.
Meanwhile, Shiffrin once again underlined her status as the global slalom queen. It was the 28-year-old's 55th World Cup victory in her showpiece discipline and her second this season. She won the gate run in Killington for the sixth time. She was celebrated frenetically by the fans at the finish.
Dürr's teammates Emma Aicher, Jessica Hilzinger, Andrea Filser and Elina Lipp did not make it into the second run.
The giant slalom on Saturday was won by Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami. Shiffrin finished third behind Alice Robinson from New Zealand.
Lena Dürr aimed to secure another podium finish in alpine skiing's World Cup Slalom event in Killington, a renowned destination for winter sports. Despite placing second in the initial run, a minor mistake in the lower section of the course during the second run prevented her from challenging for the top spot, ultimately finishing fourth. On the other hand, Mikaela Shiffrin, the reigning World Cup champion in slalom, celebrated her 90th career victory in this discipline, further cementing her position as the dominating figure in ladies' alpine skiing's World Cup Slalom events.
