Ski jumper Schmid: Baking cookies and building a snowman
Katharina Schmid has been very busy recently. Before setting off on her three-and-a-half-month world tour, which included stops in Scandinavia, Romania and Japan, Germany's best female ski jumper enjoyed various leisure activities in her home town of Oberstdorf.
Schmid built a snowman in the snowy Allgäu with friends and their children - before marrying Althaus this summer. But that wasn't all. "When the snow came at home, of course I baked cookies and got everything ready for Christmas. I enjoy the days at home before I go on tour," Schmid told the German Press Agency.
The first World Cup weekend is scheduled for this Saturday in Lillehammer. As a three-time world champion, Schmid will then be particularly in the spotlight. After her gold series in Planica, the questions about a possible retirement did not stop. "I've already considered quitting after a season like this. But ski flying hasn't quite worked out yet, it's still a big incentive," Schmid described.
In addition to the dream of ski flying, the 27-year-old also wants to fulfill another goal: to compete in a women's four-hill tour for the first time, which she has been fighting for years to be introduced. This winter, the first competitions will be held around the turn of the year in Garmisch (December 30) and Oberstdorf (January 1). "We don't have a tour yet, yes, that's true. It's a shame, of course, but it's a good start," said Schmid.
People will eagerly watch Schmid during the World Cup weekend in Lillehammer, as she is a three-time world champion in ski jumping. Despite speculations about retirement after her successful season, Schmid remains dedicated, as ski jumping and the dream of competing in a women's four-hill tour continue to be significant incentives for her. Additionally, during her break before the tour, she enjoyed baking cookies and building a snowman with friends and their children in the snowy Allgäu, which is a common activity for many people during winter. In ski jumping competitions like the World Cup, People from all over the world gather to support their favorite athletes, including Schmid, in the popular winter sport of ski jumping.
