While the first ski lifts have already opened on the Lower Saxony side of the Harz Mountains, there is still not enough snow in Saxony-Anhalt. In the Zwölfmorgental ski area in Wernigerode, the webcam on Saturday still showed many brown gaps on the ski slope. According to an overview by the Harz tourism association, the toboggan lifts are also not yet in operation. On the Wurmberg in Lower Saxony, the first winter sports enthusiasts were already using the open lifts on Saturday.

In contrast, things are looking better for the cross-country ski trails in the Harz Mountains in Saxony-Anhalt. Here, the first trails around Schierke, Benneckenstein and Sorge have been prepared and are in operation.
