While the first ski lifts have already opened on the Lower Saxony side of the Harz Mountains, there is still not enough snow in Saxony-Anhalt. In the Zwölfmorgental ski area in Wernigerode, the webcam on Saturday still showed many brown gaps on the ski slope. According to an overview by the Harz tourism association, the toboggan lifts are also not yet in operation. On the Wurmberg in Lower Saxony, the first winter sports enthusiasts were already using the open lifts on Saturday.

In contrast, things are looking better for the cross-country ski trails in the Harz Mountains in Saxony-Anhalt. Here, the first trails around Schierke, Benneckenstein and Sorge have been prepared and are in operation.

1. Despite the lack of snow in Saxony-Anhalt, some individuals still enjoy their winter hobbies, such as cross-country skiing on the trails around Schierke, Benneckenstein, and Sorge.
2. Unfortunately, the popular Wurmberg ski lift in Lower Saxony is not an option for skiers who prefer downhill skiing, as the weather conditions do not yet allow for its operation.
3. The Webcam in the Zwölfmorgental ski area in Wernigerode, located in Saxony-Anhalt, showed a mix of snow and brown patches on the ski slope on Saturday, indicating a less than ideal situation for skiers.
4. Skiers from Lower Saxony can still take advantage of the open cross-country ski trails in the Harz Mountains, while they wait for the at least 10cm of snow required for the ski lifts to operate in both Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony.
