Sixth game, sixth win: BR Volleys on the road to success
The Berlin Volleys are still unbeaten in the Volleyball Bundesliga after their sixth game of the season. However, the German champions did not put in a convincing performance in their 3:0 (27:25, 25:18, 25:18) away win against second-last TSV Haching Munich on Sunday. The team stayed in Munich straight after the match and will fly to Turkey on Monday, where it will play a tough group match in the Champions League at Halkbank Ankara on Wednesday.
With the exception of Timo Tammemaa, Berlin coach Joel Banks rested his entire starting line-up in Unterhaching. Middle blocker Nehemiah Mote stayed in Berlin for urgent family reasons and will also be absent in Ankara.
The Berlin B team struggled to get going against the Bundesliga basement dwellers, who fought with commitment. The first set even went into extra time before Estonian Robert Täht ended the nail-biter for the favorites with his fourth set point to make it 27:25. The visitors also failed to do much on serve and in defense, although Daniel Malescha and Cody Kessel in particular gradually steered the result into a more or less expected direction with their points.
Despite their unbeaten record in the Volleyball Bundesliga, Berlin Volleys depicted a less than impressive performance in their 3:0 victory over TSV Haching Munich. The German champions will continued their journey abroad, facing a challenging group match in the Champions League against Halkbank Ankara on Wednesday.
