Regional court - Six years in prison for knife attack outside nightclub
A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to six years in prison for two life-threatening knife attacks outside a nightclub in downtown Frankfurt. After a trial lasting more than 13 months at Frankfurt Regional Court, the jury chamber found him guilty of two counts of grievous bodily harm. According to the verdict on Tuesday, the accused stabbed with intent to kill at the beginning of December 2021, but later abandoned this intent. (AZ 3390 Js 258906/21)
According to the court, the accused and his companions initially got into an argument with bouncers in the bar, who eventually expelled them from the club. The altercation with acquaintances of the bouncers then took place outside the door. Suddenly, the now 26-year-old pulled out a knife and stabbed one of the opponents in the lung, narrowly missing the heart. The second opponent was stabbed in the neck. Both victims had to undergo emergency surgery. Immediately after the attack, the perpetrator tried to flee to Turkey. However, he was arrested at the airport.
After remaining silent at the start of the trial, he later expressed his regret for the crime and apologized to the victims. According to the presiding judge, the "very lenient sentence" was also due to the fact that the perpetrator's family had apparently been blackmailed by the victims. The verdict is not yet final. The public prosecutor's office had requested seven and a half years in prison, the defense less than five years.
