A six-year-old boy was found dead in a lake in Eschweiler, near Aachen. Police were alerted on Monday around 7 PM due to a missing child, a spokesperson said on Tuesday. Around two hours later, the boy was retrieved from the Blausteinsee after a large search operation involving firefighters, lifeguards, THW, and a police helicopter.

Immediate resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, the spokesperson said. Police have initiated a death investigation. Initial findings suggest that the parents briefly lost sight of their child near the shore, allowing the boy to fall into the water. Earlier, the Aachen newspaper had reported this.

The parents, originating from Germany, were on a family trip in Eschweiler at the time of the incident. After the tragic event, local authorities in Germany are conducting a thorough investigation.
