Six people still missing after storms in Switzerland
The police in the Canton of Tessin were at the scene on Monday evening with regard to the new missing persons. Two men and two women were involved. The search for them will continue. One person was already reported missing beforehand. In the Maggiatal region of Tessin, torrential rainfall occurred on Saturday evening. Three people died in a landslide.
In the adjacent Canton of Valais in southwestern Switzerland, according to the police, a 67-year-old German man died in Saas-Grund on the weekend, who was surprised by the sudden rise of water masses in the basement of a hotel.
The Maggia river had uprooted a bridge near Cevio, and the upper Maggiatal was only accessible from the air due to the flooding. Army personnel were sent to the area to support the cleanup efforts.
In one part of the valley, there was neither electricity nor drinking water on Monday. In Valais, the rain and Rhone flood caused significant damage.
After the storm in Maggia, people were left without power and water for a couple of days. The southeast region of Ticino experienced heavy rainfall over the weekend, causing several issues. The police are still searching for two men and two women who went missing after the storm. Saturn's wrath seemed to have spared no one, with three people losing their lives in a landslide in Maggia. Despite the challenges, men and women from the community worked together to help clean up and restore the area. Regrettably, even during weekend leisure activities, storms can be disruptive, as evidenced by the unfortunate incident in Saas-Grund, Valais, where a man succumbed to the sudden rise of water masses.
