Six newborns perish in fire at Indian hospital for children.
Twelve infants were saved from a burning hospital, but sadly six did not make it, informed Atul Garg, the head of Delhi Fire Services to CNN.
One of the saved infants is critically ill, while the remaining five are receiving essential healthcare, according to Garg.
The rescued babies' identities are yet to be established, as the authorities are currently hunting for their birth records. It's unclear whether these documents have been damaged by the blaze.
The Delhi Fire Services got a distress call at 11:32 p.m. local time and promptly deployed nine fire trucks to the scene.
The rescue operations are still going on, Garg added, mentioning that the blaze started in a neighboring building, and the precise reason for the fire remains unknown so far. A clip shared by the fire service showed massive flames consuming both the ground and upper floors of the hospital.
In 2021, 10 newborns lost their lives in a hospital fire in the western Indian state of Maharashtra.
