- Sisterish praises confidence in the economy
Manuela Schwesig, Minister President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (SPD), has highlighted the investment incentives of the state in light of the many crises and challenges. In the past two years, the state government has supported new settlements and business expansions with 79 million euros, enabling investments of over 420 million euros. "This has boosted investments," Schwesig emphasized at the opening of the Hanse-Sail Business Forum in Rostock, attended by around 400 representatives from business, science, and politics.
Over the past 34 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall, the economy of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has developed significantly, with the gross domestic product increasing more than fourfold. This is largely thanks to the efforts of businesses and employees. Despite difficult economic times and periods of uncertainty and international crises, businesses have never lost their confidence.
The Business Forum, held annually on the opening day of the Hanse Sail, which takes place in Rostock and Warnemünde from August 8 to 11, was described by Schwesig as an "success story" for all of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Schwesig called for support for the idea of Olympic sailing competitions in Rostock-Warnemünde if Germany were to bid for the 2040 Games. She described the sailing area as the best in Germany. If the Olympics were to be held in Germany 50 years after reunification, in 2040, the East and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern should be part of it.
This year's Business Forum was themed "Hanseatic Confidence - We Master the Future!". Topics included skilled workers and business succession. There are around 44,000 businesses in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern where the owners are over 55 years old and the issue of succession is pending, emphasized Rostock's IHK President Klaus-Jürgen Strupp. "All these businesses need a plan."
The Hanse-Sail Business Forum takes place annually in Rostock, a city in Germany. Manuela Schwesig, the Minister President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, commended Germany for maintaining business confidence despite economic challenges.
