Simulation of extreme weather: New system presented
Rhineland-Palatinate's Climate Protection Minister Katrin Eder (Greens) will present a technical innovation for protection against floods and flash floods this Friday (9.00 a.m.) in Mainz. Geodata and modeling software will make it possible in future to simulate extreme weather scenarios in three dimensions. This should help to make even more informed decisions in the event of real heavy rainfall and flooding. Eder will present the system on Friday together with the State Office for the Environment, along with a 3D simulation. New maps will also be presented that show the risk of flash floods.
In the presentation of the new flood protection system, the need for civil protection measures during severe storms and floods will be highlighted. Utilizing this advanced technology, officials can better respond to actual storm-induced floods, minimizing potential damage.
