Crime - Silent remembrance in Bad Oeynhausen after the attack in the spa gardens

After the fatal attack in the Kurpark of Bad Oeynhausen, there was great mourning. People laid numerous flowers at the scene. On Wednesday evening, around 650 people came to a silent memorial event there. Mayor Lars Bökenkroger (CDU) had called on the population. The police had previously arrested a suspect. He was an 18-year-old from the city, the investigators announced. Police and prosecutor's office announced further details for Thursday after his hearing before the remand judge.

The seriously suspected 18-year-old from Bad Oeynhausen is believed to be the main suspect, who inflicted life-threatening injuries on the 20-year-old. The police initially made no statements about the suspect's nationality, which the First Parliamentary Manager of the CDU/CSU Bundestag Faction, Thorsten Frei, criticized on the news channel Welt TV.

The attack occurred in the night from Sunday (23.6.). According to city reports, there were several graduation ball celebrations in the city center that evening, as well as an inner-city festival. The scene was accordingly lively. The victim later died in the hospital. A murder commission is investigating the case due to manslaughter and grievous bodily harm.

According to the initial statements of the investigating authorities, the 20-year-old and a 19-year-old companion had been in conflict with a group of men in the Kurpark during the night. The men were then said to have attacked their victims. One of them had allegedly dragged the 20-year-old away from the group and continued to attack him heavily. The 19-year-old had only been lightly injured.
