Music - Silbermond singer Stefanie Kloß: Don't vote out of protest

The singer of the band Silbermond from Bautzen, Stefanie Kloss, hopes that next year's state election in Saxony will not turn into a protest vote. "Anyone who has known us for a long time knows where we stand," said singer Stefanie Kloß in an interview with the Sächsische Zeitung (Tuesday). "And I would like us to vote for our region not out of protest, but out of conviction." In the past, the band had repeatedly addressed their East German origins in their music and positioned themselves against right-wing extremism.

First and foremost, the band makes music and does not convert anyone, said drummer Andreas Nowak. "But we will still be following the elections with interest."

The state election in Saxony is due to take place on September 1, 2024. According to forecasts, many citizens want to vote for the AfD. The party's state association was classified as a confirmed right-wing extremist organization by Saxony's Office for the Protection of the Constitution just last week.
